Úpor–Černínovsko, Nature reserve in Hořín, Czech Republic
Úpor-Černínovsko is a protected nature reserve stretching along the Elbe River between Mělník and Neratovice with forests and meadows spread across nine sections. Each zone supports different plant and animal communities shaped by the river and surrounding landscape.
The reserve was created in 2014 by combining three previously separate protected areas: Úpor established in 1957, Cernínovsko in 1950, and Kelské Louky in 2002. This merger unified these adjoining sections into one management system.
The reserve contains 52 protected plant species and serves as a research location for scientists studying natural ecosystems in the Czech Republic.
You can explore the area by bicycle on paths following the Elbe River, though some trails get muddy during rainy periods. Bring appropriate footwear and be prepared for wet conditions if visiting after rain.
The landscape here bears evidence of ancient geological processes involving erosion and sediment deposits that shaped the terrain. These natural forces created the varied elevations and soil types that define the patchwork of forests and meadows you see today.
