Villa Rothmayer

Villa Rothmayer is a residence in Břevnov built in 1929 by architect Otto Rothmayer, distinguished by its balanced proportions and geometric design. The building features carefully arranged windows, a rectangular floor plan, and a distinctive spiral staircase that serves as an interior focal point.

The house was designed by an architect who worked at Prague Castle in the 1920s and was influenced by a notable teacher from Slovenia. Its construction in 1929 coincided with a period when modern design was gaining prominence in Prague.

The interior displays handcrafted furnishings that reflect Czech design thinking of that era. These pieces show how the architect applied his own artistic vision to everyday living.

The building is open only by advance arrangement for group visits, so planning ahead is essential. Following comprehensive restoration work between 2009 and 2015, the villa is now in excellent condition for touring.

The house remained in the same family for decades and preserves original objects, including a special gift from the architect's famous teacher. These rare personal items offer insight into the designer's everyday world.
