Smečno Castle

Smečno Castle is a castle structure featuring Renaissance architecture in central Bohemia with distinctive arcades along its exterior walls. The building exhibits symmetrical facades and now houses residential facilities for older residents, while the surrounding parkland remains accessible to the public.

The castle began as a fortified house in the 14th century and underwent major rebuilding in 1460. This transformation led to its development into a Renaissance structure by the 16th century.

The castle takes its name from the village of Smečno and now serves as a retirement home, showing how historic buildings transform their function over time. Visitors can explore the grounds and parkland surrounding the structure to appreciate its Renaissance design from different perspectives.
