Sbor kněze Ambrože

Sbor kněze Ambrože is a functionalist church building in Hradec Králové featuring a distinctive triangular form with round windows and a pointed corner facing east that resembles a ship's bow. The structure contains a main chapel along with congregation spaces, staff quarters, and a columbarium for urns, equipped with mechanical ventilation powered by gear wheels and chains.

Construction of the church began in 1926 under architects Josef Gočár and Josef Havlíček, with its consecration taking place on April 30, 1929. The project emerged from a desire to create a modern place of worship using contemporary architectural expression.

The chapel displays a contemporary laminate cross by artist Maxim Velčovský from 2002, crafted with fine anatomical indentations that complement the minimalist interior space.

The building is clearly visible from outside and its unusual triangular shape makes it easy to spot even on a first visit to the area. Access is typically possible, though opening times may be limited, so it is worth checking ahead before visiting.

The bell tower displays a large chalice symbol crafted entirely from reinforced concrete with plaster finish, connecting to the Hussite religious tradition. This striking detail is often the first thing visitors notice when approaching the building.
