Pašijová cesta, Stations of the Cross in Římov, Czech Republic.
Pašijová cesta is a Baroque complex of 25 chapels spread across a 5-kilometer route that mirrors the layout of Jerusalem's Stations of the Cross. The chapels are connected by a continuous path that guides visitors through the sequence of scenes.
The complex was founded in 1658 by Jesuit pharmacist Jan Gurre and expanded through construction until the early 1700s. This growth period established the structure we see today.
The chapels display wooden sculptures and frescoes showing moments of Christ's Passion that visitors can see as they walk the route. These works create a spiritual journey through biblical scenes that unfold along the path.
The route is walkable and stretches across a distance that allows for gradual exploration at your own pace. Wear sturdy shoes and prepare for uneven terrain as you move between the chapels.
A wooden statue of Apostle Bartholomew vanished in 1994 but unexpectedly returned in September 2023. The recovered artwork is now displayed in a museum space on the grounds.
