Bazilika Panny Marie Bolestné, Minor basilica and Catholic church in Bohosudov, Czech Republic.
Bazilika Panny Marie Bolestné, also known as the Basilica of Our Lady of Sorrows, is a baroque church in Bohosudov in the Czech Republic, recognizable by its two onion-domed towers. The interior follows a single nave plan flanked by three rectangular side chapels, leading to an ornately decorated sanctuary.
The church was designed by Italian architects and built in the early 18th century, on a site where smaller chapel structures had previously stood. Over time it was elevated to the rank of minor basilica, confirming its role as a place of pilgrimage.
The main altar is richly decorated with religious figures and baroque ornaments that give the interior its character. Visitors walking through the nave can notice the careful craftsmanship that shaped each detail of this sacred space.
The basilica is an active Catholic pilgrimage site and is generally open to visitors outside of service times. Wearing respectful clothing is advised, and it is worth checking locally for any events or services before arriving.
Two original bells still hang in the towers of the basilica, and one of them dates back to the 16th century, making it older than the current building. They are among the few elements that link the present church to the earlier chapels that once stood on this site.
