Kostel Panny Marie Sedmibolestné a Povýšení svatého Kříže na Cvilíně

This Baroque church stands atop Cvilín Hill with twin towers, stone walls, and architectural details from the 18th century. The building displays classic features of the Baroque style through its structural design and decorative elements.

Construction took place between 1722 and 1728, representing a major religious commitment for the Krnov community. Architects Andreas and Georg Friedrich Gans guided the project as the town's faith and civic pride grew.

The church's name references the Seven Sorrows of Mary and the Exaltation of the Cross, reflecting the spiritual focus of the place. Inside, artworks by local Brno-based artists show the devotion that shaped this building over time.

You can reach the church through marked hiking trails connected to the Via Czechia - Silesian Trail network. The hilltop location offers good views but requires some physical effort for the climb.

Four citizens of Krnov purchased the church in 1786 to prevent its scheduled demolition, showing how deeply the community valued the building. This rescue by local residents preserved it as a symbol of their shared past.
