Bílina Hillfort, Gord in Bílina, Tsjechië
Bílina Hillfort is a medieval stronghold built on elevated terrain near the town of Bílina. The site contains remnants of defensive earthworks surrounding a central settlement area that once housed community structures.
The site originated during the early medieval period between the 8th and 11th centuries, serving as a defensive stronghold and community center. A major Frankish attack in 857 marks one of the significant events in its history.
The site is accessible from the town center via marked trails, particularly from the street called Na Hradišti. Before visiting, check the Czech Monument Catalogue listing for current preservation status and visitor information.
Excavations have uncovered elite jewelry from around the 10th century buried in a nearby grave, suggesting the hillfort was a hub of regional power and wealth. Pottery fragments classified as Zabrušany-type show connections to trade networks across northwest Bohemia and Saxony.
