Štěkeň Castle, Baroque château in Štěkeň, Czech Republic
Štěkeň Castle is a Baroque château built on the bank of the Otava River. The structure displays early Baroque features modified during the 18th and 19th centuries, surrounded by a landscaped park created in the first half of the 19th century.
The castle was built between 1664 and 1665 on the foundation of an earlier fortress. The Losy of Losinthal family owned it until 1781, after which it changed hands several times.
The castle served for centuries as the residence of a noble family who shaped village life. The building and its rooms still carry traces of that period in their design and layout.
The castle lies about 7 kilometers east of Strakonice and can be reached via the I/4 road. As a protected cultural monument, it is open to visitors, though access conditions should be confirmed in advance.
The castle was built atop the remains of a medieval fortress, with elements of the older structure incorporated into the new building. This layering of different periods makes the site architecturally interesting for those who notice details in the stonework and design.
