Jaroslavice Castle, Renaissance château in Jaroslavice, Czech Republic

Jaroslavice Castle is a château featuring Renaissance design with stone walls, balanced proportions, and carved ornamental details. The building blends elements from its earlier medieval structure with architectural innovations introduced during its transformation.

A wooden stronghold stood on the site before a castle was first recorded in 1249 as the seat of Boček of Obřany, burgrave of Znojmo. In 1567 Count Scipio of Arch rebuilt it as a four-winged Renaissance château, later altered in the Baroque style by Domenico Martinelli and, in 1730–1736, by Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach. From 1949 to 1951 it held a forced labour camp for about 100 women.

The structure reflects Renaissance ideals of order and beauty that shaped how nobility wanted their residences to appear. It shows how Central European lords adopted architectural styles from the Italian Renaissance.

The castle is located in Jaroslavice and is currently closed to visitors. You can view the exterior and surrounding grounds from the street and nearby areas when passing through the village.

Filmmakers chose the château repeatedly: Angelic Face (2002), the Black Barons series (2003), the fairy tale Three Hearts (2006) and an episode of Crime on a Good Road directed by Jaroslav Fuit in 2025. In the staircase corridor between St. Giles Church and the château, a vault has collapsed.
