Church of Gunther of Bohemia

The Church of Gunther of Bohemia is a Catholic church located in Dobrá Voda near Březník peak, featuring distinctive glass altars and tables. Natural light passes through the windows to illuminate these glass elements, creating shifting patterns of brightness throughout the day.

Built between 1706 and 1734, this structure is the only religious building worldwide dedicated to Saint Gunther, a German hermit and diplomat from the 11th century. This singular dedication reflects both regional reverence and exceptional historical circumstances.

The interior displays modern glass installations created by Czech artist Vladimíra Tesařová during a renovation phase. These works merge traditional church architecture with contemporary artistic expression and shape how visitors experience the sacred space today.

The site sits along the Gunthersteig pilgrimage route, which begins at Niederalteich Abbey in Germany and passes through the Bavarian Forest region. Visitors should expect a mountain setting, so sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended.
