Klinika, Community center and squatter's house in Žižkov, Czech Republic
Klinika was an autonomous social center in a repurposed building with spaces for meetings, workshops, concerts, exhibitions, and communal gatherings. The center included a concert venue, infoshop, library, bar, and garden, sustained through donations and volunteer labor.
The center was established in 2014 during a housing rights protest and operated under various legal statuses until its final eviction in January 2019. Its existence involved ongoing negotiations between residents and local authorities over its future.
The space was a gathering point for local artists and residents who organized exhibitions, offered language classes, and hosted musical performances. These activities reflected the values of the surrounding community and created room for exchange and creative expression.
The space was accessible during the day and evenings for various activities and open to visitors wanting to join the community. Most events were free or run on a donation basis to ensure access for all.
The center organized the distribution of roughly 150 truckloads of humanitarian aid to multiple European countries, demonstrating its commitment to international solidarity. This work extended beyond local activities and connected the community to broader social movements across Europe.
