Štáflova chalupa

Štáflova chalupa is a residential dwelling built around the 1500s that features two traditional black kitchens where smoke rose directly through the roof. The cellar includes a dug corridor and a dedicated smoke room with a basic ventilation system designed for food preservation.

The house took shape in the second half of the 1500s as a typical Bohemian rural dwelling that has defined the local streetscape ever since. The Štáfl family lived here continuously and kept the original structure mostly unchanged through to modern times.

This building shows how rural families organized their homes around daily work and survival. The multiple kitchen spaces reveal the practical arrangement of cooking, heating, and smoking activities that took place within a single household.

The location sits centrally near the main square and a former monastery church, making it easy to find and reach. Visitors should plan their timing carefully since opening hours are limited, and expect varied conditions inside the historic structure depending on the season.

The house once housed a bookshop that collected scouting materials and vintage publications. This collection links the family's private domestic story with a cultural passion that remains visible in the building today.
