Sekvojovce v Michelském lese, Giant sequoia grove in Michle Forest, Prague, Czech Republic.
Sekvojovce v Michelském lese are two towering giant sequoias located in the northern section of Kunraticky Forest. They reach heights of approximately 33 and 23 meters and are protected as natural monuments by Prague authorities.
These giant sequoias were planted in 1954 by forester M. Kucera using seeds that Count Otta Ferdinand Chotek had brought from Ratmerice. The trees received official protected status as natural monuments in 2010 and have remained under strict conservation measures since.
These trees serve as local landmarks that draw visitors interested in experiencing rare species within a forest setting. They represent the natural diversity found in Prague's green spaces and inspire appreciation for botanical preservation.
Access the sequoias by following marked trail 6122 from Roztyly metro station heading toward Labut pond through the forest. The path is clearly marked and the trees can be easily spotted once you reach the grove area.
The two sequoias display distinctly different crown formations: one maintains a regular balanced shape while the other developed a pronounced conical structure due to wind exposure. This contrast allows visitors to observe how similar trees respond differently to environmental conditions.
