Telčský dům, house in Vnitřní Město, Czech Republic
The Telčský dům is an old residential building on Zacharias of Hradec Square in the center of Telč. It contains Romanesque cellar elements and painted wooden beams from earlier periods that were discovered and restored during renovation work.
The building originated in the pre-Gothic period as part of the royal estates, as shown by its Romanesque cellar elements. Following the city archive fire of 1530, it remained in private hands for centuries and served various craft purposes.
The house is named after the town of Telč and displays a coat of arms connected to the local nobility on its facade. Inside, the rooms reflect the different crafts and trades that took place there over the centuries, from glassmaking to beer brewing.
The building operates as a private museum with a permanent exhibition on local stories and legends. Visitors should keep in mind that this is a functioning historical building and visits should follow the museum's operating hours.
The house was purchased by artist Anna Hanzlová in the 1990s and underwent an eleven-year restoration that revealed hidden painted wooden beams and cellar elements. The restoration work received a city award in 2004 for the best renovation of a historic building.
