Muzeum českého granátu, Garnet museum in Třebenice, Czech Republic
Muzeum českého granátu is a museum housed in a former Lutheran church that displays an extensive collection of jewelry and decorative objects made from local pyrope garnet. The exhibition showcases different types of garnet jewelry and explains how this stone has been mined and worked in the region.
The museum originated from a collection started by Dr. Václav Pařík in 1872, which was initially housed in an old school building. The collection moved to its current location in the former Lutheran church in 1959.
The exhibition includes a replica of Baroness Ulrika von Levetzow's jewelry set, connecting the museum to regional nobility and literary history.
The museum provides information about garnet mining and processing techniques used in the area. Visitors can also purchase certified garnet jewelry items at the on-site shop.
The museum houses a specialized exhibition section about castles in the České středohoří region, featuring three-dimensional reconstructions that show how these fortifications appeared in the past. These models help visitors understand how the structures changed over time.
