Dráchovské louky, Nature reserve in Dráchov, Czech Republic
Dráchovské louky is a protected nature reserve featuring wetlands, meadows, and disconnected river channels of the Lužnice River. The area covers approximately 62 hectares at elevations ranging from 406 to 420 meters.
The area was designated as a protected natural area in 2013 by the South Bohemian Regional Office to preserve its ecosystems. This protection was established to safeguard the region's valuable habitats long-term.
The meadows are managed using traditional methods that have shaped the landscape over generations. This approach allows rare plants and animals to thrive in this environment.
You can access the reserve through unmarked field paths and a red-marked hiking trail connecting Dráchov and Žíšov villages. Spring through autumn offers the best conditions for exploration, when paths are more accessible and wildlife is active.
The reserve shelters endangered species including the freshwater pearl mussel, striped loach, and European otters. These creatures are naturally drawn to the specific conditions created by the Lužnice and its wetlands.
