Hořín

Hořín is a château on the left bank of the Elbe River, displaying Baroque exterior forms and Rococo decorations inside. The building structure dates from the late 17th century and features multiple levels marked by windows and doors in classical proportions.

The château was built in 1696 for the Czernin family and was later redesigned by notable architects including Giovanni Battista Alliprandi. These early changes fundamentally shaped its current appearance and interior layout.

The building reflects the architectural styles that Central Bohemian noble families chose for their homes, with its Baroque forms and decorated interior spaces. It represents how the local aristocracy expressed their status and taste through residential design.

The château is currently closed to the public as restoration work is underway. Visitors can view the building from outside and explore the surrounding area, including the adjacent park and the riverbank.

The property sits next to the Vraňany-Hořín Shipping Channel, which was built in 1905 to support boat traffic on the Elbe. This waterway shows how the area was historically linked to river commerce and how infrastructure developed around the château.
