Dům Budovců z Budova

Dům Budovců z Budova, Cultural monument in Old Town, Czech Republic.

Dům Budovců z Budova is a residential building on Týnská Street in Prague's Old Town with Gothic architectural roots from the 14th century. The structure has undergone multiple reconstructions over the centuries, with major work completed in 1987, and now contains apartments and ground-floor commercial spaces.

The building originated in the 14th century with Gothic design, but gained prominence through a tragic event in 1621 when its owner Václav Budovec was executed at Old Town Square along with 26 other nobles. This execution marked a turning point that linked the house to one of Prague's most significant historical moments.

The house bears the name of the Budovec family and displays an iron statue of Václav Budovec on its facade, keeping the family's memory alive in the Old Town landscape. Local residents and visitors recognize the building through this commemorative element that marks its connection to one of Prague's notable families.

The building sits in the heart of Old Town along Týnská Street and is easy to reach on foot. As an active residential building with private apartments, it is visible from the street, but visitors should understand that interior access may be restricted.

After Václav Budovec's execution in 1621, the family managed to keep the property because it remained registered under his wife Anna's name. This registration detail protected the house from confiscation, allowing the family to retain ownership when such seizures were common for executed nobles' estates.
