Postoloprty Castle

Postoloprty Castle is a four-winged structure combining Baroque and neoclassical architectural styles in the Czech Republic. The complex features a square tower and was built primarily in stone, with different building periods blended throughout the overall design.

The site began as a Benedictine monastery in 1125 before transforming into a castle in the late 16th century under Sebastian von Weitmühl's ownership. This transition marked the shift from religious sanctuary to noble residence.

Once a residence of the Schwarzenberg family, the castle reflects the aristocratic tradition of Bohemia. Today visitors can walk through rooms that once belonged to this influential family and sense their way of life.

Access may be limited since the castle is currently undergoing renovations, so visitors should check ahead before arriving. The town of Postoloprty plans to convert the space into cultural venues, which will offer more opportunities to visit in the future.

Between 1706 and 1718, architect Pavel Ignác Bayer carried out major renovations that shaped the structure with his own Baroque design ideas. His influence is clearly visible in the details and proportions of the building today.
