Cítoliby Castle

Cítoliby Castle is a baroque château in the village that comprises three connected wings positioned on elevated terrain near Tyršovo Square. The structure retains features from its original fortress period but was redesigned in the early 1700s to acquire an elegant appearance with decorative elements.

The fortress was built between 1543 and 1562 to serve a defensive purpose. In the early 1700s, architect Giovanni Domenico Orsi undertook extensive renovations to transform the building into a residential baroque palace.

The castle was designed with decorative details like baroque fireplaces and terraces that shape how indoor and outdoor spaces connect. Its garden with a semicircular staircase shows how the space was meant for gatherings and leisure.

The castle sits about 2 kilometers from Louny and is currently listed as an endangered cultural monument. Preserving the building requires careful attention, so visitors should exercise caution when exploring the grounds.

A vaulted stone bridge connects the ballroom directly to the terraced garden, allowing an elegant passage between indoors and outdoors. This architectural solution shows how the owners wanted to weave entertainment and nature together.
