Drnholec Castle

Drnholec Castle is a fortified residence with Gothic origins from the 14th century that later gained Renaissance features. The structure stands on elevated ground above the river valley and displays characteristic elements of both building periods.

The structure began as a Gothic building in the 14th century and underwent major changes when noble families reshaped it during the Renaissance. The most substantial work took place around 1580, when builders added new elements that transformed its appearance.

The building shows different architectural styles that reflect the tastes of the noble families who lived here over time. You can see how the design changed as different generations made their mark on the structure.

The castle sits on elevated terrain with views across the river valley and can be reached by several approach paths. Visitors should expect uneven ground and stairs, particularly in the older sections where the original Gothic structure remains visible.

The Dyje River below the fortress marked an important territorial boundary between different regions for many centuries. This geographical position made the site valuable for controlling movement and trade across the landscape.
