Chlum u Třeboně Castle, Baroque castle in Chlum u Třeboně, Czech Republic
Chlum u Třeboně Castle is a residence built in neo-Baroque style in a village south of Jindřichův Hradec, with an extensive park on the southern grounds. The structure rises on the foundations of an older fortress and shows multiple building phases in its architecture.
The site was built in 1710, replacing a Gothic fortified structure that had stood there previously. Between 1901 and 1903, the castle received its current neo-Baroque character through major renovations.
This castle is now a protected cultural monument of the Czech Republic and shows how South Bohemian noble families designed their homes. The neo-Baroque style and maintained park grounds offer a sense of how the upper classes lived in this region.
The castle sits south of Jindřichův Hradec and is reachable through marked hiking trails, including the Via Czechia South Trail. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow time to explore both the building and the park grounds.
The estate came under the control of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria around 1875, linking it to the imperial family. This connection makes it a site of regional historical importance for understanding the ties between Bohemian nobility and the Habsburg realm.
