Church of Saint Lawrence, Late Baroque church on Masaryk Square, Hodonín, Czech Republic

The Church of Saint Lawrence is a single-nave late Baroque church built in 1780–1786 on Masaryk Square in Hodonín. It has a rectangular nave with a segmentally closed chancel, a tower and sacristy with oratory on the east side, and facades divided by pilasters. The main entrance is in the south facade, topped by a triangular gable.

A church existed here by 1240, when it was first documented in a charter for the Tišnov convent. It was replaced around 1686 by an early Baroque church built under the Oppersdorf lords, which in turn gave way to the current late Baroque church of 1780–1786. The old tower was kept, with only its belfry level modified.

The church is the parish church of Hodonín and stands in the middle of Masaryk Square. Its tower retains the bell from 1640, decorated with reliefs, and a small death bell from 1714 hangs in the lantern. In 1853 the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre was created in the space under the tower.

You can enter through the main entrance at Masaryk Square, ideally during regular mass times or guided tours. It is best to check opening hours in advance to ensure you have access when you visit.

The bell tower produces distinct sounds that carry across the South Moravian landscape. These bells have marked important moments and events in the city's life for generations.
