Letohrad Castle is a Renaissance fortress located on Václavské Square with early Baroque details added through modifications in the late 1600s. The structure reveals how its appearance changed across centuries through various architectural adaptations.
The fortress was built in 1554 and originally served as a stronghold for the Vitanovský of Vlčkovice family. It was significantly rebuilt in the 1600s when the owners transformed it into a residential palace.
The castle now functions as a private school and holds meaning for residents as a center of learning in their community. It anchors the town's identity and connects the area's past to its present.
The castle sits centrally on Václavské Square and is easy to find on foot in town. Visitors should note that the building operates as a school and may not be freely accessible to the public.
The building displays a rare blend of Renaissance and Baroque features in one structure, visually showing the different building phases of its owners. This combination of two architectural styles at one location is uncommon in the region.
