Church of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, Roman Catholic church in Hranice, Czech Republic

The Church of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist is a single-nave Baroque church on the south side of Masarykovo náměstí in Hranice, built in 1754–1763 to a design by František Antonín Grimm. It is oriented on a north–south axis, with a semicircular presbytery flanked by a two-storey chapel and sacristy, and a prismatic bell tower at the north entrance. The nave is vaulted with shallow domes between arches, the presbytery carries a dome on pendentives.

Construction of this place of worship was finished in 1763, marking a period of strong architectural development in the Olomouc Region. Its completion came during the height of Baroque architecture in Bohemia.

The dedication changed from Saint John the Baptist to his Beheading in the 1730s, before the new church was built. The main altar holds Josef Stern's 1762 painting of the Beheading, and the church remains the parish church of Hranice na Moravě, with services held in Czech.

This place of worship sits on Masarykovo Square in the center of Hranice and is easily reached on foot. Visitors can view the building from outside and attend regular services to experience the interior.

The patronage of Saint John the Baptist specifically focuses on his martyrdom by beheading, an unusual emphasis for church dedications in Europe. This specific choice of saint veneration sets this building apart from many other churches in the region.
