Dukovany Castle

Dukovany Castle is a residence featuring late Baroque architecture with Neoclassical elements in a village in southern Moravia. The building showcases spacious halls decorated with ornamental details that reflect its substantial interior design.

Reconstruction began in 1790 when an earlier manor house was transformed into a more substantial residence. This remodeling occurred during a period of architectural progress in the region.

The interior halls display frescoes by Moravian painter Josef Winterhalder, reflecting artistic tastes of the late 1700s. These works shape the rooms' appearance today and offer insight into the artistic preferences of that period.

The castle sits in a quiet village about 27 kilometers southeast of Třebíč and is reasonably accessible. Visiting by car is most straightforward since the location lies away from major transport routes.

The building was created at a time when Dukovany had just become an independent estate after centuries of belonging to various noble families. This new independence of the place is reflected in the ambition to construct a modern manor house.
