Church of Saint John the Baptist, Wooden church in Lipná, Czech Republic

The Church of Saint John the Baptist is a wooden building in Lipná that displays traditional craftsmanship typical of northern Moravia. The structure features carved details and wooden elements that are characteristic of regional construction methods from this area.

The German settlement of Lipná (Lindenau) was first recorded in 1394, and a church with its own pastorate existed by 1408. The present wooden church likely dates to the 17th century; its baroque organ positive bears the date 1699. It was rebuilt in 1746, repaired in 1772 and 1908, and given a slate floor in 1927.

The church is a filial church of the Roman Catholic parish of Saint Bartholomew in Potštát. Mass is held here twice a year: on the Feast of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist (24 June) and during the Christmas period, or at funerals in the adjacent cemetery. The cemetery preserves original gravestones of the German inhabitants of Lipná, formerly called Lindenau.

The wooden materials were crafted using local techniques specifically developed for this building type. This construction method allowed builders to create structures that could flex slightly and last for centuries.
