Church of Saint Catherine, Gothic church in Jindřichův Hradec, Czech Republic

The Church of Saint Catherine is a Gothic church building in the center of Jindřichův Hradec that is part of a Franciscan monastery complex. Inside, you will find religious artworks and medieval architectural details that reflect different periods of construction.

The church was founded during the medieval period when Jindřichův Hradec was an important town in the Kingdom of Bohemia. It grew alongside the city and the nearby Franciscan community over several centuries.

The round Chapel of Our Lady of the Angels, called Porcinkule, was added to the south side of the nave in 1674. Its dome carries stucco bands and paintings by Giacomo Tencalla (1644–1689). A traditional pilgrimage also called Porcinkule is held on the first weekend of August.

The church is easy to locate in the city center of Jindřichův Hradec and can be reached on foot. It is recommended to check the opening times in advance, as they may vary depending on the season.

The south side of the nave carries two domed chapels: Saint Anthony of Padua, added in 1662, and the Porziuncola chapel of Our Lady of the Angels, built in 1674. The Porziuncola dome is decorated with stucco bands and paintings by Giacomo Tencalla (1644–1689).
