The castle features a rectangular two-story structure with a central tower, two short wings, and an elevated ground floor within the village setting.
Originally constructed in 1567 as a Renaissance fortress, the building underwent a transformation into a Baroque château between 1737 and 1741.
The castle chapel contains ceiling paintings created by artist J. V. Neunhertz in 1744, while the main hall received wall paintings by the 18th century.
The castle stands as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1963 and remains 3 kilometers north of Týn nad Vltavou.
The Jewish population in Koloděje nad Lužnicí reached 679 people by 1857, representing more than half of the total local inhabitants.
