Kopidlno Castle

Kopidlno Castle is a four-wing structure set within a 12-hectare park in Kopidlno, Czech Republic. The layout features a central courtyard with column-supported arcades and a Baroque tower topped with an onion dome.

A water fortress originally occupied the site from 1527 before being replaced by the current Baroque structure in the mid-17th century. Count Schlik undertook major renovations in 1875 that reshaped the building's appearance.

The château contains preserved wooden cassette ceilings and wall panels from the 19th century in two rooms of the west wing's second floor. These handcrafted elements reflect the interior quality typical of that period.

The building has functioned as a horticultural secondary school since 1948, with interior spaces adapted for teaching while maintaining the original floor plan. Visitors should note that it remains an active school facility, which may affect access to certain areas.

The park includes a winter garden built in 1894 that was modeled after the Schönbrunn palm greenhouse in Vienna. This botanical space houses around 170 different tree species and reflects 19th-century gardening traditions.
