Hamry Reservoir, reservoir in the Czech Republic
Hamry Reservoir is a large water body on the Chrudimka river in the Železné hory hills. The earthen dam stretches over 200 meters long and reaches nearly 18 meters high, with a calm, wide water surface reflecting the surrounding landscape.
Built between 1907 and 1912, this was the first dam on the Chrudimka and the oldest in the Pardubice region, created to manage flooding and supply water to surrounding towns. Reinforcements with concrete were added in the 1930s, and control equipment was installed in the 1960s and 1970s.
The reservoir is easily reached from the nearby town of Hlinsko, with paths leading to the dam and surrounding landscape perfect for walking. Fishing and swimming are not permitted to keep the water clean and safe for the communities that depend on it.
