Suchdol, Cultural monument and château in Central Bohemia, Czech Republic

Suchdol is a château in the village of the same name near Prosenická Lhota in the Příbram district. Its main building stands on the south side of a farmyard, has a rectangular plan, one storey and a mansard roof; the ground-floor arcades on the courtyard side were walled up in the 19th century. A perimeter wall links the château with the farm buildings, and a park once lay to the south.

A fortress at Suchdol is first mentioned in writing in 1543, though a manor stood in the village in the 14th century, held by a noble family related to the Břekovci of Ostromeč. In 1473 the Břekovci held it as part of the Kozí hřbet estate, and after 1518 it belonged to Červená Hora. In 1637 Aleš Ferdinand Vratislav of Mitrovice sold Suchdol with its fortress to Kateřina Čabelická of Soutice; later owners changed often, and it is unclear which of them rebuilt the fortress as a Baroque château in the 17th or 18th century.

The Suchdol name is shared with the village, and the château stands on its eastern edge within a farmyard. In the second half of the 20th century the grounds served a state farm, so the buildings are working farm structures rather than a furnished residence. A 1675 description records the earlier fortress as small: a kitchen, a ratejna (labourers' quarters) and a chamber downstairs, two rooms and a chamber upstairs.

The château stands on the eastern edge of Suchdol, within a farmyard whose buildings are linked by a perimeter wall. The main building faces the yard on the south side, with the former park also to the south. The site lies near Prosenická Lhota in the Příbram district, not on the Prague–Kutná Hora road.

The 1675 inventory shows the fortress was tiny: a ground-floor kitchen, a servants' room and a chamber, with just two rooms and a chamber upstairs. The château's courtyard arcades were walled up in the 19th century, and in the second half of the 20th century the grounds served a state farm.
