Slabce, Cultural monument and château in Rakovník District, Czech Republic

Slabce is a two-storey château with a rectangular plan and ten window axes on its longer side, with a short side wing on the west and a three-storey prismatic tower added by the Hildprandt family in the early 19th century. Its present Empire appearance comes from a mid-19th-century rebuilding; inside, Baroque barrel vaults and figurative sgraffito decoration from the mid-19th century survive in the first-floor corridor.

A manor stood at Slabce by the mid-14th century, when Jaroslav ze Svinařova is recorded there in 1360; that farmstead vanished during the Hussite Wars. Burian z Vahanče built a fortress in 1540–1542, and its masonry survives inside the present building. Karel Vančura z Řehnic began converting it into a Baroque château in 1686, work finished in 1735; after structural cracks in 1800 the Hildprandt family reduced it, and Hugo Nostic z Rieneku, who bought it in 1847, gave it its Empire form.

The château houses the municipal office, a health centre and the library, so the former aristocratic seat is still in daily public use. In the first-floor corridor, figurative sgraffito decoration from the mid-19th century survives, and the park keeps a Baroque orangery whose side walls open into the garden through porticoes of Tuscan columns.
