Chanovice, Medieval château in Chanovice, Czech Republic
Chanovice is a castle in the Czech Republic with Gothic foundations from the 13th century and later Baroque elements added after a fire in 1780. The building sits on a hill and is surrounded by gardens that connect different sections with varying architectural styles.
The family of the Lords of Dlouhá Ves acquired the estate in 1468 and later renamed themselves the Chanovský family, showing their deep connection to the place. This name change marked the beginning of their long-term rule over the territory.
The castle reflects in its rooms how Czech nobility lived and displayed their wealth from medieval times through the Baroque period. The preserved interiors show personal objects and furnishings that illustrate the daily lives of these families.
The building can be visited from April to October, with guided tours through the various rooms and areas. It is easy to reach and accommodates visitors with different mobility levels, though some sections have stairs.
The castle grounds house an open-air museum with traditional buildings relocated from surrounding villages in the Plzeň region. These houses show how ordinary people in the area lived and worked long ago.
