Strážnice Chateau, Renaissance château in Strážnice, Czech Republic.
Strážnice Chateau is a Neorenaissance building with white exterior walls constructed on the remains of an older water fortress. An English-style park surrounds the main structure, featuring lakes, walking paths, and spaces for performances.
The site started as a water fortress around 1260 to defend the Hungarian border and was later transformed into a residential castle. The shift from a military structure to a noble residence reflects how the region changed over time.
The castle now houses the National Institute of Folk Culture, which focuses on preserving the traditions of the region. The collections and library here document how people in Southeast Moravia lived and expressed themselves through music and crafts.
The park and buildings are accessible during regular visiting hours and can be explored easily on foot. Visitors should plan to spend enough time to see different parts of the grounds and tour the interior of the castle.
The castle hosts the annual Strážnické Festival, one of the largest celebrations of Southeast Moravian folk dance and music. The event draws artists and visitors who come to experience these regional art forms in their authentic setting.
