Chotěboř Castle, Baroque château in Chotěboř, Czech Republic
Chotěboř Castle is a Baroque residence in the town of Chotěboř with Italian architectural features including white exterior walls, numerous windows, and a symmetrical floor plan. The building overlooks an English-style park and now contains exhibitions from the local museum.
The castle was built between 1701 and 1702 by Count Kinsky as an aristocratic residence, marking a period of noble development in the region. After World War II, ownership changed hands several times before eventually returning to family control.
The castle served as a family residence for generations, with the Dobřenský family shaping local life from 1836 until 1948 through their presence and management of the estate. Their return to ownership after 1992 shows how the place remains rooted in family heritage and local memory.
The castle is located in a protected historic town center near the Church of Saint James the Great, allowing visitors to explore both the interior rooms and the surrounding grounds. Plan time to see both the exhibitions inside and the park layout outside.
Within the castle grounds stands the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, an architectural feature that sets this place apart from other period castles and estates. The chapel adds a spiritual dimension to the visit with a dedicated religious space within the complex.
