Borovany Monastery

Borovany Monastery is a large building complex with stone walls, multiple courtyards, and a church displaying baroque architectural features. The structures show a mix of older and newer construction, reflecting different building phases across the centuries.

The monastery was founded in 1455 and served for a long time as a center of religious life in the region. Following its closure, it was converted into a castle in 1785 and took on different purposes afterward.

This community played a central role in local spiritual life for centuries, serving as a gathering place for faith and reflection. The spaces inside reveal how religious life unfolded here through daily routines and communal practices.

Visitors can book guided tours in multiple languages from April through October and walk through the various rooms and courtyards. During winter months, group visits are available by arrangement and the grounds are easy to explore.

The collections hold medieval manuscripts from the 15th century recording knowledge about medicinal plants and farming methods. These documents offer rare glimpses into the everyday knowledge and practices of the monks living here then.
