Bolechovice Castle, Medieval château in Bolechovice, Czech Republic
Bolechovice Castle is a two-story structure with a front wing featuring a central pediment and buttresses along the main facade. A coat of arms cartouche adorns the building, documenting the families of importance who resided here.
The castle was first mentioned in documents from 1381 when a Marquis held the title of Bolechovice. In 1775, Jan Karvínský of Karvína rebuilt the structure on its older foundations, transforming it into the residence that stands today.
The coat of arms of the Šarfenbach family is displayed prominently on the building, marking the families who shaped it over time. The inscriptions and decorative elements on the facade reflect the social standing of those who called this place home.
The castle is located in the Příbram District of the Central Bohemian Region and has been undergoing extensive reconstruction work. Visitors should be aware that the building is in an active restoration phase that affects both its interior and exterior.
After the Velvet Revolution, the castle became home to painter Jan Souček's family, serving as a private residence during this period of change. Its current legal status and financial challenges make its future uncertain.
