Zámek Vlčice, Classicist château in Vlčice, Czech Republic
Vlčice Château is a classicist manor house near Trutnov with a balanced facade and rectangular windows. The building sits elevated above the landscape and displays a central entrance portal with clean geometric lines.
The fortress was founded in 1416 and later transformed into a Renaissance castle. In 1792 Jan František Theer rebuilt it as a classicist manor, giving it the form it has today.
The name derives from a Slavic word for wolf, reflecting the wildlife that once roamed this region. Today the classical design of the building can be admired from the park, where visitors are welcome to walk freely.
The château is not open to visitors, but you can view the exterior from the park or photograph it from the surrounding pathways. The best views come from elevated positions within the adjoining park grounds.
The surrounding natural park was created in the 19th century by František Schaffgotsch and covers about 40 hectares with local landscape features. The park was then an example of English-style park design, which was rare in Bohemia.
