Lechovice Castle

Lechovice Castle is a four-wing baroque structure with grand arcades surrounding a central courtyard and displays classical baroque design throughout its layout. The building sits within a park that was originally designed in the French formal style before being transformed into an English landscape garden.

The castle was built in the 16th century on the site of an earlier Gothic fortification and underwent important changes under Jan z Lobkowicz and later the House of Šternberk. These two ruling families shaped the building over several decades.

The castle reflects the daily world of Bohemian nobility through rooms filled with period furnishings, historical tapestries, and valuable porcelain that belonged to the families who lived here. These objects tell the story of how the inhabitants lived and what they valued over many generations.

The castle and its gardens are open to visitors who can explore both the interior rooms and outdoor areas at their own pace. The grounds are relatively flat, making it easy to walk through for most visitors.

The castle was the birthplace of Jan Evangelista Purkynje, a notable Czech scientist whose work shaped modern medicine. His connection to this place marks it as an important location in Czech scientific history.
