Chroustovice Castle

Chroustovice Castle is a building with a symmetrical layout, consisting of a central structure flanked by two side wings. The complex now serves as a vocational school and is surrounded by a formal garden laid out in the French style.

The original Renaissance building was replaced in 1676 with the current Baroque structure, commissioned by Count František Karel Libštejnský of Kolowrat. The Thurn und Taxis family acquired the estate in 1823 and made alterations that updated the complex to suit their needs.

The name comes from the village where it stands, and visitors can observe how different owners left their mark on the building's appearance. The mix of Baroque and Rococo details in the architecture tells the story of its changing purposes over time.

The castle sits about 13 kilometers east of Chrudim and 17 kilometers southeast of Pardubice, making it accessible by car from both towns. Access to the grounds may be limited since it currently serves as a vocational school, so check ahead before planning a visit.

The estate was taken over by the Thurn und Taxis family, a European noble dynasty known for running extensive postal services across the continent. This connection to one of the era's most influential families sets it apart from other castles in Bohemia and adds a layer of historical importance.
