Bozkovského dům, house in Prachatice I, Czech Republic
Bozkovského dům is a three-story house on the main square of Prachatice built during the Renaissance period. The facade displays painted square patterns and ornaments from 1573, while distinctive bay windows and a decorated risalit showcase regional Renaissance architecture.
The house was built around 1573 for Jiřík Bozkovský and later changed hands several times. A fire in 1832 caused severe damage but the building was carefully restored and has remained a protected cultural monument ever since.
The house has served as a gathering place in the city center for centuries. Today, locals and visitors use the space for events and social moments, keeping its function as a community meeting point alive.
The location is central on the main square and easily reached on foot. The building opens to visitors during cultural events and at specific times, with ground-level access and wide entrances making it easy to visit.
The ground floor now houses a cafe where visitors can experience the historic space in everyday use. Medieval vaulting inside reveals 16th-century craftsmanship that remains visible beneath modern activities.
