Zámecký areál Lobkovice

Zámecký areál Lobkovice is a château with a main building surrounded by extensive gardens along the Elbe River, featuring Gothic cellars and Renaissance architectural elements throughout. The grounds include multiple spaces created for different uses, such as the historic vaulted cellars beneath the main structure and landscaped garden areas.

The property first appeared in written records in 1403 when Prague burgher Prokop Krukner acquired it. Over time the medieval manor was gradually transformed into a Renaissance residence.

The estate is closely linked to František Palacký, one of the most important Czech historians who made it his home from 1852 to 1860 after marrying into the Měchura family. His presence here connects the place to the intellectual and cultural life of 19th-century Bohemia.

The estate sits roughly 30 kilometers (19 miles) north of Prague and welcomes visitors for various occasions. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended since the grounds spread across a substantial area and invite exploration of the gardens and surrounding landscape.

Following the 1989 political changes, the property returned to the Lobkowicz family after four decades of state control. This restoration allowed the family to reclaim their historical connection to the place after a long period of separation.
