Landfrasova vila is a single-story classical house built in the 1820s with a simple rectangular layout and sloped roof featuring dormer windows. The structure displays symmetrical façade details including stone-framed windows and decorative pilasters, surrounded by a tiered garden with multiple levels and original terraces.
The villa was constructed between 1826 and 1839 by builder Josef Schaffer for the Landfras family, prominent printers and publishers in the town. It was extended in 1937 by architect Antonín Mečíř and has been recognized as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1958.
The villa served as a social gathering place for the town's intellectual circles during the 19th century. The carefully designed garden reflected the owner's civic values and desire to create a pleasant public space for the community's residents.
The villa is located on Karlov street on the left bank of the Nežárka river and remains visible from the street. Visitors can view the exterior architecture and remaining garden features from public access points without needing special arrangements.
Alois Josef Landfras deliberately designed the garden as a public space for all townspeople rather than a purely private retreat for his family. The Italian-style terraced layout with pavilions, ornamental elements, and fountains reflected his vision of combining personal wealth with community benefit.
