Tvrz Čelákovice

Tvrz Celákovice is a stone fortified house near the Elbe River built during the Middle Ages with defensive walls and Gothic and Renaissance architectural details. The structure combines military design with artistic elements added over time, making different construction periods visible throughout the building.

The structure was built around 1300 as a fortified residence and underwent several transformations over the centuries. A major restoration between 1973 and 1982 preserved its medieval character for future generations.

The fortified house now serves as the Town Museum, showcasing discoveries from different periods in the region's past. Visitors can walk through exhibition rooms that reveal how people lived and settled in this area over centuries.

The fortified house stands northeast of Prague and is accessible through guided tours during regular museum hours. Plan to arrive with enough time to explore the exhibition spaces and see the various rooms at a comfortable pace.

Beneath the fortress walls stands one of Bohemia's oldest water mills, dating back to the 10th century. This historic mill demonstrates how local inhabitants harnessed water power early on and remains a rare surviving example from that era.
