Šiškův mlýn

Šiškův mlýn is a watermill building in Vanov featuring traditional architectural details and decorative stucco work on its facade. The structure sits beside a pond along the Telčský stream and now operates as a guesthouse with contemporary conveniences.

The mill was established in 1477 and received its present form through major baroque renovations in 1793 under Josef Procházka. It later transformed from an active production facility into a leisure accommodation between 1996 and 1999.

The mill takes its name from past owners and reflects how such structures were once central to village life and local commerce. Today it stands as a reminder of traditional craftsmanship and the importance of water-powered work in rural communities.

The site is easily accessible and offers free parking along with wireless internet service for guests. The grounds invite leisurely walks along the stream and nearby water features, making it an easy place to spend time outdoors.

Above the entrance stands an original Latin inscription recording the 1793 restoration and the name of Josef Procházka who oversaw it. This carved text offers visitors a direct connection to the hands that shaped this building and the period when it was revived.
