Dům U Červené lišky, Romanesque house on Old Town Square, Prague, Czech Republic

Dům U Červené lišky is a house on Old Town Square, its rear wing reaching Kožná Street, between the houses U Modré husy and U Zlaté koruny, opposite the astronomical clock. Its core is Romanesque, rebuilt in Gothic style and given its present early Baroque form around 1700. The Kožná Street facade is modern, while the entrance is Baroque.

The house's Romanesque core predates its first written mention of 1401. In the 15th century it was replaced by a Gothic new building, with further medieval work probably after 1508. A major early Baroque reconstruction around 1700 gave it its present form; a dispute with a neighbour documents that work was already under way in 1694, when the original house sign was replaced by a relief of the Virgin Mary.

Inside, you will find a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from the 1700s, which shows how religious figures were honored in homes throughout Prague. This type of religious artwork was a common way for residents to express their faith and connection to local traditions.

The ground floor and cellar house the restaurant 420, run by Michelin-starred chef Radek Kašpárek. The rear of the building opens onto Kožná Street (No. 9), while the main frontage is on Old Town Square at No. 24, opposite the astronomical clock. A 2021–2022 renovation removed a glass tube and lift from the courtyard and roofed it over.

In 2017 Coast Capital Partners bought the house for over half a billion korunas, about 230,000 korunas per square metre, reported as the highest sum then known paid for a house in central Prague. The investment group RSJ bought it in December 2021 and, with conservationists, removed a glass tube and lift from the courtyard.
