Dům U Černého orla, Litoměřice, Renaissance house in Litoměřice, Czech Republic
The Dům U Černého orla is a two-story building in central Litoměřice with an angled facade decorated with biblical scenes carved into its surface. Inside, ribbed vaults define the interior spaces and display typical Renaissance architectural features.
The building was constructed before 1564 under architect Ambrož Balli for the Divišovský family. Over the following centuries, imperial grants shaped its role and gave it special legal protections.
The house displays Italian architectural influence through its arched colonnade and the decorative biblical scenes carved into its facade. These Renaissance details remain visible today and shape how the building appears in the town square.
The building now houses Hotel Salva Guarda, with exhibition space and a restaurant in the ground floor areas. Visitors can view the interior and its historical features when entering the hotel or by joining a guided tour.
The original name 'U Cerneho orla' (At the Black Eagle) comes from a guild emblem that once marked the building's role in medieval commerce. This name has remained through all the later changes in its use and ownership.
