Stará pošta

Stará pošta is a two-story rectangular building in Běchovice with a mansard roof and a central projection that marks its front. Behind it lie outbuildings where carriages were sheltered and horses were once kept, forming a complete station complex around a yard.

Built in the early 19th century, this building served as a postal relay station on the Trstěnická Route where travelers could change horses and rest. It played an important role in connecting postal routes across the region.

The name 'Stará pošta' simply means 'Old Post Office' in Czech, reflecting its role as a stopping point for travelers. Today the building still functions as a pub where locals gather, preserving the social purpose it held when postal workers and travelers passed through.

The building sits on Českobrodská street in the village of Běchovice where it remains accessible to visitors. It operates today as a pub and dining establishment, making it easy to experience the interior and local hospitality.

The building is also called an Ausspann, which was the term for stations where travelers could change horses and carriages during journeys. This old name has largely faded from memory, even though such stations were once vital to long-distance travel.
